Chris was born and raised on the BC Coast and has spent his working life on the water, in the water and along the shores. He was a fisherman and commercial diver for a combined 26 years until transitioning into outdoor leadership. In 2007, he attended Canadian Outdoor Leadership Training (COLT) where he met Co-owner April Link. This 100-day guide training program includes training in canoeing on lakes and rivers in tandem boats and solo lake paddling, sea, surf and river kayaking, backpacking, Avalanche 101, rock climbing, snow and glacier travel as well as navigation and leadership. He came away from the program certified in Advanced Backcountry First Aid (80 hrs), Lakewater Canoe Instructor (Recreational Canoeing Association of BC), Assistant Overnight Sea Kayak Guide (Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC, Association of Canadian Sea Kayak Guides) and as a VHF Radio Operator.
He has gone on to work as a Sea Kayak Guide around Central and Northern Vancouver Island, Canoe Instructor around Prince Rupert, First Aid Attendant in the North, Wilderness Instructor for at-risk youth through CanAdventure and Ghost River Rediscovery as well as leading extended, multi-sport, backcountry trips for Aboriginal Youth and undergraduate students through Outward Bound.
Chris is also an experienced Small Vessel Operator, Big Canoe Leader and Ocean Canoe Instructor and co-skippered the Friendship House of Prince Rupert's Northern Dancer on the 2011 Canoe Journey from Gingolx (Kincolith) to Gitga'at (Hartley Bay.)
