Mother’s Day Paddle Camp (Just for Moms!)
By special request: A camp just for moms on your special day. Usually, we take your kids off your hands and give them some fun, outdoor adventure, but this is our first ever adventure camp for moms. This time, you get the fun!
We’ll do an afternoon adventure so you’re still available for the fam to make you breakfast in bed (hint, hint…) and chill in the morning then get outside for some time on the water with other awesome moms!
No canoeing experience required. We will cover safety and skills basics to make it a safe and enjoyable trip. Led by a long-time, certified RCABC Canoe Instructor and fellow adventurous woman! Camp will go in most weather conditions unless the wind makes it unsafe to be on the water.

Cost: $90+GST per person.

Two in the Canoe: Basic Tandem Canoeing
Set yourself up for more fun on the water this year. Learn to control the canoe's movement, manage safety concerns and fill in gaps in your knowledge base that will open a new world of exploration and skills development. Participants are eligible to earn Basic Tandem Lakewater Paddler certification through the Recreational Canoeing Association of BC, the prerequisite for all other certifying courses. Course content includes: equipment, safety essentials, strokes (Forward, Reverse, J, Draw, Pry/Push-away), carries, transportation, canoe-over-canoe rescues, changing positions, launching/landing. Bring your own canoe or canoes and required safety equipment can be rented. Immersion gear required for rescue practice. Wetsuits can also be rented. Come dressed for the weather and ready to learn. We paddle unless the wind stops us.

Basic Solo Lakewater Paddler
Take your flat water skills to the freeing experience of solo canoeing! Learn how to apply what you know about tandem paddling to take the canoe out without a partner. This is an opportunity to really boost your confidence in your skills. Come out and enjoy the feeling of freedom! This is also the minimum level of training that most camps want in their canoe leaders. Become eligible for a Lakewater Solo Paddler certification through the Recreational Canoeing Association of BC.

Lakewater Canoe Leader Training
The Lakewater Leader Certificate is a training program for camp staff, youth organization leaders and school teachers who are leading brief, introductory canoe sessions or activities, especially with kids. Participants are candidates for Lakewater Tandem Paddler Level 1 and Lakewater Solo Paddler Level 2 certification through the Recreational Canoeing Association of BC.

Advanced Tandem Paddler
Build on the basics to add finesse and efficiency to your canoe-handling skills. We'll work on side-slips, braces, sculling, tight turns, blending strokes and tandem self-rescues in addition to theory.
Pre-requisite: Lakewater 2 Basic Solo Paddler or if you already have significant tandem canoe skills, including a solid J stroke, draw, pry, canoe-over-canoe rescue and comfort changing positions in deep water, you may be ready for the Recreational Canoeing Association of BC's Lakewater 3 Advanced Tandem Paddler course. If you have not completed the Basic Solo course already, get in touch and we can discuss equivalencies.

KAYAK SKILLS CLINICS
Rolling Clinic
Come out and learn to roll or get some pointers in developing it to be solid and reliable. If you have never had formal instruction, it is way more effective to learn from a person than from videos. This is a small group session with one-on-one help, too. Bring your playboat, sea kayak or decked rec boat and play with some new friends! The session will focus on rolling techniques, but may review T-rescues as well.
Basic kayaking skills are pre-requisite, including comfort with wet exits and a willingness to be underwater.

Beginners: over here! Come learn essential skills you need to be safe on the water. Once you know how to re-enter your boat and help your partner in the event you capsize, you will feel much more confident. This will be a small group with two instructors plus lifeguards on duty; a great opportunity for learning in a safe environment.
We will focus on:
-Wet exits
-Paddle float self-rescue
-T-Rescue (basic, assisted-rescue method for conscious, uninjured paddlers)

For sea kayakers who have mastered the basics and want more tools in their rescue skills box. We will work on self-rescues that are faster, require less gear and give you options to choose from for different circumstances. We'll try partner assisted-rescues for more complex situations.

CANOE INSTRUCTION
Intro to Canoeing Clinic
Inner paddler, meet the canoe. Grab a paddle, get on the water and experience this classic symbol of Canada, first-hand. Learn the basic strokes and skills to be safe and have fun on the lake. This clinic is predominantly instructional, but will include a short paddle to use your new skills. Courses are based at Diana Lake and will run unless wind prevents. All canoes and safety equipment provided. Just come dressed for the weather and ready to learn to paddle!
